Solo & Ensemble – Per the band student handbook, all Lamar band students will play a solo or ensemble or both this semester. Specific expectations are listed in the student handbook. I have attached it to this email if you do not have a copy available. Wind Symphony students will participate in UIL solo & ensemble with either a solo or ensemble or both. All other band students are encouraged, but not required to attend UIL solo & ensemble contest. Entry forms will be distributed on Tuesday. They are due next Monday along with the entry fee.
Challenges – Competition helps drive student progress. The directors encourage students to practice many hours at home so that they may progress as musicians. Orlando Trip – Room sign up and airline info meeting on Wednesday Jan. 17th at 3:00pm. Pick your roomates ahead of time, 4 students per room. If you don’t have roomates, the directors can help pair you up with others. Trip payment for Jan. is due today. Here are the upcoming due dates. It is ok to pay early but on time payments are critical as we approach the final payments of the spring trip. Jan. 15, Feb. 5, Mar. 5, April 2.
Volunteers needed – We are in the planning stages for the Jan. 27th contest at Lamar. This is a HUGE fundraiser for the booster club. We need MANY parents and students to volunteer. I expect all color guard families to participate. We also need many other band students and parents to help out. Strategic Plan – The booster club is holding a strategic planning meeting on Thursday. The idea is to look into the future and be proactive now in assuring the success and growth of the Lamar band program. If you would like to to join, please meet in the band room on Thursday Jan. 18th at 6:30pm.
Winterguard – The first contest for the winterguards is this Saturday at Martin HS. Good luck! The contest at Lamar on the 27th is quickly approaching. If you can’t donate your time to volunteer, we do need the following items donated as soon as possible. Electrical tape (many rolls), duct tape (many rolls), pens, pencils, markers, and wristbands for spectators/performers. Send donations to the band room.
Band fees – Monthly payments are due at the beginning of the month. Trip payments are also due. Login to Charms to check your financial status in band. If you see anything wrong or don’t understand the statement, please email me and let me know. I encourage students to bring their payments in before school and hand it to a director. Band fees must be paid before students are allowed to go on the spring trip, buy prom tickets, and diplomas are held until all LHS fees & fines are paid in full.
