Announcements 10/1/2017

Contest #1 – We made it to competition season! It was a beautiful day for marching band. The Mansfield Preview of Champions had 28 high schools represented. We had a good performance and the judges gave us good feedback. Most of all, the students represented LHS with class. We had a parent from another school tell us that the Lamar students were the best behaved / well-mannered students all day. That made the staff very proud! Thank you to the parents who served lunch and dinner! All-in-all, I am pleased with our first outing and I know we learned a lot about ourselves and what we can do better next weekend.

 

Band fees – I sent out an updated band fees statement last week. It is critical that students pay these fees. If you see anything wrong or don’t understand the statement, please email me and let me know. I encourage students to bring their payments in before school and hand it to a director. Band fees must be paid before students are allowed to go on the spring trip.

 

Spring Trip – The band & orchestra have planned a combined spring trip to Orlando this spring to compete in the Festival Disney Music Contest. The dates are April 13-16. We will fly there and stay on at a Disney hotel. We will spend two days at Disney and two days at Universal Studios Orlando. The cost will be between $1200-$1500 depending on how good of a deal we get on airline ticket prices. That depends on how fast we can get deposits on the trip. Students were given trip contracts last week. I have attached a trip contract to this email. Please get this turned in as quickly as possible. If any parents would like to attend as a chaperone, please notate that on the student’s contract.

 

Rehearsals – This week rehearsals are Tuesday 3:30pm-6:30pm, Wednesday and Thursday 3:30pm-6:00pm. Rehearsal attendance is mandatory. If you have transportation concerns, let us know and fill out this form. https://goo.gl/hRA3NU

 

Upcoming itineraries – This Friday is an away game at Crowley HS and then a contest on Saturday in Burleson! The DeSoto Marching Contest is on Oct. 14th. UIL is on Oct. 17th and then the USBands SW USA Championship at AT&T stadium on Oct. 21st. I will be sending itineraries as soon as I can for all events. Please read them for details regarding call times, pick up times, and meal arrangements. Yankee Candle fundraiser – The deadline for candle sales is this Friday. The candles will be in before the holidays so it should be a popular way for people to get gifts early. For more details contact Mr. Lang or Mrs. Murphy. https://www.yankeecandlefundraising.com/home.htm
