UIL – SWEEPSTAKES! I can’t begin to express how proud I am of the Pride of Lamar. Each member of this band program should be very proud of their hard work this year. Every concert band earned ratings higher than last year, and the Freshman band earned one of the highest sub-non varsity band scores on stage ever at Lamar. The Wind Symphony earned straight ones on stage and a 1 in sight-reading. With the 1 from marching season, we have earned our first UIL Sweepstakes since 2010. Before that it was 2005! This is a great accomplishment. The retired Lamar band directors Mark Pease and Steve Musser were very impressed and proud of the accomplishment. We have heard many congratulatory comments on the performances. However, like I said last week, no rating can express the musical journey you have been on and the experience of playing great music at a high level.
Winterguard – Congratulations to the varsity winterguard! They medaled at the NTCA Winterguard Championships today in Flower Mound! They are bringing home bronze medals and the 3rd place trophy. So proud of these very dedicated performers. The Lamar guard continues to be a exemplary performing unit at LHS. Way to go Pride of Lamar!!!
Leadership – On Monday we will have a very brief meeting to kick off the leadership auditions for the 2018-2019 school year. We encourage ALL students to attend this to learn about the different leadership opportunities available and how to audition for them. This meeting is also required for drumline and color guard leadership positions.
Orlando Trip – This is the big week! We will be sending out reminders and tips for packing via the trip remind. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions. My first tip is to start packing today!
Band fees – All band and guard fees were due by April 2nd. Login to Charms to check your financial status in band. If you see anything wrong or don’t understand the statement, please email me and let me know. I encourage students to bring their payments in before school and hand it to a director. Band fees must be paid before students are allowed to go on the spring trip, buy prom tickets, and diplomas are held until all LHS fees & fines are paid in full.
