Announcements 10-30-13

FRIDAY – This Friday, Nov. 1, is Senior night. Call time will be 5:45pm.

SPRING TRIP – We currently have 70 students that have committed to the spring trip. We have room for a few more students, but we are quickly running out of time. If you are interested in going, see Mr. Lang ASAP. Chaperones haven’t been decided. This will happen as soon as possible.

USBANDS REMO SERIES FINALE – We are looking forward to our final competitive performance of the year. We will be going up against 20 other bands from around the state and 7 in our classification. The updated itinerary is attached to this email. If you would like to purchase tickets to the USBands contest, the tickets are $12 and available in the band office. We encourage families to carpool. The buses will be limited on seats. We will only have 3 chaperones for the buses. We will have chaperone passes available for parents who are available to help with equipment at the stadium.

BAND HALLOWEEN PARTY – A huge thank you to the Dickey family for hosting the band Halloween party last weekend. It was a great success due to Sara McCormack and the student leadership team.

Announcements 7-11-13

PARADE — The parade was a great success! The directors are very proud of the students and we have received many compliments. The band facebook page has a link to a video that has a couple shots of the band. Also, a big thanks to Mr. Brawner for posting the photos he took during the parade. They can be seen on the band website or the band flicker account.

DRUM CORPS SHOW — Three Lamar band alumni will be performing with three different drum corps’ at the Denton drum corps show July 18th. I strongly encourage all band students to attend this incredible event. If you don’t know what drum corps is, go to www.dci.org for more info. Tickets are $25 and the performances start at 7:00pm. Most of the leadership team is going to the show. Contact your section leader for more info. The band calendar has an address and further details.

HANDBOOK AND FEES — The updated band handbook is available on the band website under the forms & links section. The new fee form will be uploaded soon. I have attached the fee form to this email. Please have all forms filled out and payment ready on Aug. 3rd. A notary will be available at registration (Aug. 3) to sign/stamp the medical form.

DRUM MAJORS — The drum majors, Maggie Borton, Lindsay Lehman and Phil Nickols, recently attended the SASI leadership camp at UNT. The three Lamar drum majors won the “Best General Effect” award for their salute! Congratulations to Maggie Borton on being selected for the top award of the week, the John Wooden award. She was selected from over 200 drum majors. She truly represented Lamar with Pride!

LEADERSHIP — The leadership team had a very productive and informative workshop last week. Mr. Ferrito was very pleased with the progress and looks forward to a great marching season.

Announcements 6-26-13

LEADERSHIP — The drum majors, field assistants, section leaders, president & vice president will start an intense leadership workshop Thursday June 27th with Mr. Peter Ferrito from Teens to Teams Inc. The directors are very excited about the future leaders of the Lamar band! The drum majors have returned from the SASI drum major camp at UNT. They had an “AMAZING” time.

SONIC CAR HOP FUNDRAISER — Thanks to those who supported the color guard last week. They earned over $390 in donations.

INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE — We will start rehearsal on July 1st at 8am. The detailed schedule is on the website and at the bottom of this email. Make sure you have your summer uniform. We will be wearing khaki shorts instead of the blue shorts. Make sure you have khaki shorts that are dress code and not frayed or cargo shorts.
For rehearsals you will need the following:
* Water jug
* Sunglasses / hat
* Comfortable shorts
* Tennis shoes or marching shoes
* Music
* Instrument
* Flip book if you have one

PARADE DAY DETAILS — We are #8 of 134 groups in the parade! We are the first marching band this year. We will meet at the UTA parking lot just north Doug Russell street at 7:00am. We should be finished by 10:15am. Students will need to be picked up promptly after we are finished with the parade.

PARENT MEETING — We will hold our annual parent information meeting on Tuesday July 2nd at 7:00pm in the band hall. I will explain the parade and the August marching camp. This is a great time to ask questions about marching season in general.
