Announcements 3/19/2017

Pre UIL Concert – This Tuesday is our pre UIL concert. We have hired some great judges to come give us feedback on how we are doing in preparation for UIL. The call time for Symphonic Band is 5:00pm, Freshmen Band is 5:45pm, and Wind Symphony is 6:15pm. We very much want parents to come out and enjoy the concerts. Our UIL times in April are in the morning, and we realize that is difficult for many parents to come out and listen. This is a great chance to hear all the music we have been working so hard on this semester. Students must wear formal concert attire. Tuxes and dress, pressed and neat, white button up tux or dress shirt, bow ties, black socks, dress shoes, etc. This is part of the performance grade.

Sectionals – We have made some changes to sectionals for the remainder of the UIL preparation season. These are all very important rehearsals as we continue to strive for exemplary performances from all three concert bands. Parents must email or call with any conflicts that may arise.

Winterguard – Congrats Lamar High School Varsity Winterguard on your performances this past Saturday & Sunday at the WGI SouthWest Power Regional in Denton! Lamar competed against 36 guards from Texas, Arkansas, Nebraska, Mississippi, Louisiana and Oklahoma. We ranked 17th at prelims and advanced to finals! The final ranking was 14th of 19 in scholastic A. That is a very impressive accomplishment at a major WGI event! http://wgi.org/events/static_scores/2017/scores_Southwest_Power_Regional_CG_Finals.php

Spring Trip – Room sign up is Wednesday at 3:00pm in the orchestra room. Mandatory student/parent meeting on March 28th at 7:00pm. Payments for March were due on the 17th. The last payment is April 3rd, but early payments are always appreciated! Detailed information will be coming out very soon regarding the trip. It will likely be posted at  the orchestra website https://www.lamarorchestra.com/single-post/2016/11/02/Spring-Trip-to-MemphisNashville-info

Jazz Band – Just for clarification purposes, Jazz 2 will be traveling to Coyote Jazz Festival on March 24th. Jazz I will be traveling to the Tarleton State Jazz Festival on March 25th.

March 24th: We need 3 Chaperones to accompany Ms. Burns

March 25th: We need 3 Chaperones to accompany Ms. Oliver PLUS ONE KIND HEARTED INDIVIDUAL TO PULL THE TRAILER. If you can pull the Lamar band trailer, please contact us ASAP. This would just be the 25th.

Summer Dates – Keep an eye on the band calendar at www.lamarmusic.org for summer and fall dates. Many have been added already. Summer practice schedules will be added soon. Students who earn a leadership spot will need to take the 2nd session of summer school as their leadership camp happens during the 1st session. We encourage ALL students to get ahead and take summer school. Session 2 conflicts less with band schedules, other than drumline. See attached summer school flyer.

Save the Date – June 17th we will bring back the Lamar band mattress sale fundraiser! A few years back we did our first mattress sale with great success. It’s time once again to set up a mattress store in the band room. DON’T BUY A MATTRESS UNTIL JUNE! See the attached flyer.

Eligibility – All band students who have a failing grade on the report card will be attending study hall in the band room to help improve grades in all classes. They will eat lunch first and attend study hall in the band room for the last 20mins.
